You are invited to a felting workshop by India Betar, a textile artist based in Sydney (see http://indiabetar.com/ for examples of her works). She found a spot in her busy schedule to conduct a felting workshop for PSN. The workshop will cover a short introduction to felting, with an overview of various techniques and the basic principles and tools.

India will first demonstrate how to make a felt bead with a wet felt technique and everyone can have a go. We will then lay up and felt a spiral colour bead (see the picture above). After that we will make a felted rock 10cm (makes a great paper weight or table decoration), also by wet felting. You will learn the basics of laying up fleece, prefelted shapes and some of the considerations in working larger. We can look at options for finishing and removing the rock if desired to make a small vessel. The same technique can be used to make a hat. It should be a very busy and productive 2hrs.

The cost: for PSN members $10 per person, non-members $20. Materials: up to $7 p.p.

What to bring: a small, rounded rock no bigger than 10 cm in diameter, a bar of soap (Laundry or bathroom not fancy), an old towel or two and an ice cream container or other non fragile bowl.
