Our education is fun and a great way to connect with a like-minded community.  Many events are free for members, and our paid courses are affordably priced.

    Ku-ring-gai Local Group Meeting.  Sunday 6th September 2015 Lindfield 2.00 – 5.00pm

    Greetings

This will be a general forum on growing food and protecting it from pests of the fungal, creepy-crawly, and tree climbing variety. Bring your problems and your solutions and exchange information.   Diana Watson will bring her research skills and computer connected to a television screen to find expert opinion if local knowledge is not enough. Hopefully we will also refine our own research skills. We will have a wander in the garden, and, of course, afternoon tea.

Please register so we will be able to contact you if needed

    See you then

    • Weeding around the wicking beds and mulching the pathway
    • Working on the balcony garden, painting pots and potting up
    • Adding to and turning over the compost

Did you know that we are exposed to more toxic and hazardous chemicals from using common household cleaning products inside our homes than anywhere else? These incredibly harmful chemicals are causing many illnesses for us and our families and create tons of toxic waste which is disposed into our environment. In the past 40 years, at least 70,000 new chemicals have been released into the environment through cleaning and industrial products, with a US study revealing that its participants carried an average of 43% of these chemicals in their body.

There is a much healthier alternative to this, so we are inviting you to come along and learn how to make beautiful, sustainable and family friendly safe, low cost cleaning products for your home. Together we will make washing powder, fabric softener, cleaning sprays and creams, toilet cleaner, air fresheners, liquid hand soaps, veggie wash and more. So come along and discover the joys of cleaning your toilet bowl and boosting your immune system at the same time!

    • Nelson Heather Community Centre, Banksia Room, 5 Jacksons Rd, Warriewood

To celebrate Sustainable House Day (2nd Sunday in September), PNB has invited two leading sustainable housing experts, Architect Jo Gilles and Sustainable Building Designer Dick Clarke, to share their inspiration and insights on creating sustainable homes with us.

Sustainable House Day on September 13 provides an ideal opportunity to tour some of the most environmentally progressive homes on show across our region to gain firsthand practical knowledge, inspiration and ideas that can be applied to reduce the ecological footprint of our own homes.

Our forum on September 24 - ‘Focus on Sustainable Homes’ brings together two leading experts – both of them eminent practitioners in the field of solar and ecological home design, to share their knowledge and inspiration for better building design, and working in harmony with nature with us.

Jo Gilles is Principal Architect with Archisoul Architects based in Manly. Dick Clarke is Founding Director of Envirotecture, a specialist sustainable building design consultancy based in Elanora Heights. Their presentations will provide insights into the theory and philosophy underpinning creation of liveable and truly sustainable homes in the 21st century.

Our speakers will explore topics including the role of localness in sustainable building design, taking practical steps to a greener home, and what we can do in our own homes to include more sustainable features, even on a low budget.

Presentations will be followed by an audience Q & A panel, giving us the opportunity to gain information and answers to questions that relate to our own situations.

All welcome.  Free to members;  Guests by donation $5
