SUMMARY:Kiln-Building Workshop & Permabee
LOCATION:Hornsby - full address on registration
DESCRIPTION:https://www.permaculturenorth.org.au/event-2219150\n\n\n\n\n Join ceramics artist Chris Suttie for a fantastic day learning how to build a small wood fired kiln\, and help Cat with a few small projects in the garden.\n\n Using common house bricks which you can find just about anywhere this kiln is easy to build and with practice you can get temperatures of over 1000 degrees C\, which means you can put glazes on your pots and use them around the house. For ease and practicality the pots for the firing will be provided by Chris.\n The workshop will be split into:\n * a demonstration of how to build the kiln with suggestions of the materials needed and the flexibility of design with these wonderful little things\n\n * a general description of the best type of clay to use for objects made for these type kinds of firing\n\n * a quick description of the glaze type used for these low temperature firings\n\n * a quick firing starting around 10 and finishing by 3 using wood as the fuel and explanation of how to use the wood to get best results.\n\n\n Please note that due to the size of this kiln weather conditions may shorten or lengthen the firing.\n We will also run a permabee building a no-dig raised garden (and a few other odd jobs) while we wait for the firing to finish. It's a huge garden with plenty to do if you just like feel like weeding in a quiet corner.\n\n It will be a social day so feel free to pop in when you can!\n\n Email Chris with questions: chrisuttie05au@yahoo.com\n
