Wahroonga
Saturday November 13 - 2.00pm to 4.00pm
Join the Living Skills Team in a Natural Dyeing Workshop.
Natural Dyes have minimal environmental impact. Because they come from natural sources, they are not harmful to the environment. The excess dyes are biodegradable and disposing of them does not cause any pollution especially of our waterways. The hues obtained are limitless, varing from season to season, place and species.
In this workshop we will be using Eucalyptus bark dyes. You will learn how to scour and mordant the fabric before dyeing. You will be show various Shibori techniques to decorate the material.
You will dye two calico bags and also try out your Shibori techniques on calico samples. Ideally the material should soak in the dyepot for 1 to 3 days, so you will be taking home your samples and bags in a large glass bottle filled with the bark dye to be opened 1-3 days later. We will also learn about colour shifting using iron. .
You will also be shown how to dye using Ecualyptus leaves.
Bring a clean empty 2 litre glass jar if you have one and gloves.
You will be taking home 2 dyes calico bags, your sample pieces and a jar of dye to continue the dyeing process. As well you will each be given notes on the process.
