Guest Speaker: Charles Massy

For what we hope will be our last Zoom only meeting, we are excited to welcome Charles Massy!

Charles gained a BSc (Zoology, Human Ecology) at ANU (1976), before going farming and developing a prominent Merino sheep stud business. His concern about land degradation and humanity’s sustainability challenge led to him completing a PhD in Human Ecology (ANU) in 2012.

Charles' latest book, Call of the Reed Warbler: A New Agriculture – A New Earth (UQP Sept. 2017) is a fascinating account of regenerative agriculture in Australia, highlighting many different techniques such as Holistic Management, Biodynamics, Natural Sequence Farming, and something called Permaculture. There are also case studies showcasing the innovative farmers practising these techniques on their own landscapes.

He also discusses the positive implications for solving our current climate crises as well as the benefits for human mental and physical health.
