Monthly gathering: Through permaculture to politics, with Hornsby Councillor Monika Ball

10 years ago, Monika Ball did Penny Pyett's Introduction to Permaculture at Ryde TAFE. It changed her life.

Since then she's worked hard to live more thoughtfully and responsibly. She's volunteered with PSN, developed a permie home and garden, reduced her consumption and car use, left a mindless job, been WWOOFing, re-trained, organised community clean up and tree planting events, and started the Green Thumbs of Hornsby Shire Facebook group.

But like many of us she found change is so slow and no matter how much she did at an individual level, it’s not enough, given the situation our environment is in. So she decided to join the Greens.

Like permaculture, the Greens are a grassroots movement with value systems of ecological sustainability and social justice. Then last year she ran for local council, and she and two other Greens, Emma Heyde and Tania Salitra, won seats in each of the three wards. In just a year, the hard-working trio, with support from Hornsby Greens, have driven important changes in our local government to protect our local environment.

Join us to hear Monika's inspiring stories, as well as other news from PSN members at this month's gathering – in person at Lindfield Hall, or you can dial in on Zoom.

Stay for supper, bring something for the swap table – plants, crops, preserves, clothing, books, etc – and don't forget to check out the library.

Please register if you are attending in person.
