Winter Permabee (Rescheduled)
9.30am – 2pm Sunday 21st June, Lane Cove

Come and make a difference by supporting Wendy and Alasdair in their garden. They are some of our longest standing members and have done so much in the permaculture and sustainability spheres that it’s time for us to return the favour.

Wendy is very resourceful and has run workshops on using scraps and recovered materials to make bon bons and Christmas cards, using old umbrellas, making garden tool pouches and using leather-like materials. Additionally, she has run workshops on preserving olives.

Both have been instrumental in the success of Repair Café Sydney North, the first in Sydney. It has been running for 10 years now. Twice a month they volunteer their services; Wendy in repairing bags and belts; Alasdair in sharpening knives and garden tools.

About the event:

Tasks include:
  • Removing apple mint
  • Whipper-snipping between raised beds
  • Repurposing one of many frog ponds into a mini nursery or raised bed
  • Raking up leaves
  • Building a compost heap
  • Weeding
  • Potting up plants to take home
There will be some ‘show and tell’ activities too:
  • Growing lemon aspen into a hedge
  • Growing a semi-deciduous native peanut tree
  • Pumping bath water into the garden

As usual, there will be plenty of opportunity to have a chat with like-minded people and to enjoy lunch together afterwards.

Owing to circumstances we are taking a different approach to lunch for this event. Hosts will provide bread, cheese, meat pies, tea and coffee, and Cecilia will bring soup. If you are able to help by bringing something small to compliment these (that doesn’t need kitchen space to prepare) that would be great – please let Cecilia know (email below).

Full address is provided on registration. The address is a short walk from Lane Cove road, where various regular bus routes run.
