Hornsby Group: Design Bee (open to all)
1–3pm, Saturday 18th July, Mount Colah

Join us at Matt and Katerina's home for a collaborative design session as we reimagine the next stage of a native bush tucker food forest.

This front garden already contains a range of native edible plants, but it's time to refine the design. The aim is to remove some non-native and non-edible species, replace temporary plantings with longer-term solutions, introduce additional bush tucker plants, and create a winding path that encourages visitors to explore and learn about the different edible species.

During the afternoon Matt will introduce the site, explain the existing conditions, share what's already growing, and outline his vision and objectives for the space. We'll then work together using permaculture design principles to generate ideas, discuss possibilities, and develop a practical design that balances productivity, beauty, biodiversity and accessibility.

Whether you're experienced in permaculture design or simply enjoy thinking creatively about gardens, your ideas and perspectives will be valuable. This is also a great learning opportunity for anyone wanting to know more about native edibles, food forests, or applying permaculture principles in garden design.

What to bring: Please bring some afternoon tea to share, and a keep cup (hot drinks provided). You may also want to bring a note pad and pen/pencil to capture ideas.

The address (off Excelsior road, close to the highway) will be provided on registration. It's about a 15 minute walk from Mt Kuringai station, and there are buses along the Pacific highway from Hornsby or Mt Kuringai that bring you closer.
