Permabee: Mount Colah Native Food Forest
9.30am–3pm 8th August, Mount Colah

During this permabee we'll be redeveloping a bush tucker food forest.

The garden already contains a diverse collection of native edible plants, but it's ready for its next stage of development. Together we'll reshape the space by removing selected plants, creating a meandering path through the garden, and adding new bush tucker species to increase diversity, productivity and accessibility.

We'll also tackle a few seasonal jobs around the property, including spreading compost from the chicken run onto nearby garden beds and topping up the mulch on existing paths.

Whether you're interested in native edible plants, food forests, or simply enjoy getting your hands dirty alongside like-minded people, this will be a great opportunity to learn, share ideas and contribute to a productive day in the garden.

Tasks are likely to include:

  • Removing selected plants to improve the overall design
  • Planting a range of native bush tucker species
  • Creating a walking path through the food forest
  • Spreading compost from the chicken run onto garden beds
  • Mulching existing garden paths

Lunch will be provided. Please ensure you bring a hat, water bottle, gloves and sturdy footwear. If you have favourite gardening tools, feel free to bring them along.

The address (off Excelsior road, close to the highway) will be provided on registration. It's about a 15 minute walk from Mt Ku-ring-gai station, and there are buses along the Pacific highway from Hornsby or Mt Ku-ring-gai that bring you closer.
